Biography-Karla Scott, MBA
Karla Scott, M.B.A. draws upon her real-world business experiences marketing in Fortune 500 corporations,her extensive public sector training initiatives, her university teaching, and her prolific world travels to help participants strengthen their business communication skills. Whether the topic is Fearless Public Speaking, Effective Business Writing, Presenting with Impact, Navigating New Cultures, Valuing Diversity, or Handling Difficult Customers with Finesse, she carries the message with enthusiasm and integrity. She is passionate about helping clients to realize their full potential and consistently receives excellent evaluations.
Scott’s understanding of multiple industries and appreciation of different work cultures along with her interesting life story provide her with rich sources of learning for her training workshops. She has worked in marketing and strategic planning positions for several Fortune 500 companies (Kraft General Foods in New York, American Airlines in Texas, and Ryder System in Florida); has designed and delivered more than 400 training workshops to more than 3000 Miami-Dade County employees, across 50 departments, at all levels; taught an Employment Planning & Placement Human Resources class at the University of Miami during Fall 2003; conducted customer service workshops for front line employees throughout the US for Banff Academy for Business; and conducts training workshops for Fortune 500 clients as a member of the training team at Simmons Associates, an organizational development consulting firm. Scott is a certified adult literacy tutor; a certified crises helpline counselor; and has traveled throughout the states and to the rest of North America. In addition, her travels have taken her to Central and South America, Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia, in all, to more than 30 countries. She has designed and delivered training to diverse groups of varying sizes including union employees, Fortune 500 CEO and Board of Directors, at-risk youth, engineers, librarians, receptionists, biologists, bus drivers, casino personnel, and field sales personnel.
She earned an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. Her undergraduate degrees, in Business and French, are from Washington University in St. Louis. She lived in France during her junior year of college, (L’ Université de Caen), and the summer after graduate school. For three years, she took credit courses, pursuing her interests in training and intercultural communication, at the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication, near Portland, Oregon.
Karla has played an active role in many community and professional organizations, including: National Speaker’s Association, Florida Speaker’s Association, American Society for Training and Development, Leadership Miami (Fellow and Facilitator), Switchboard of Miami (Certified Crises Help Line Counselor), Women in International Trade, Black Executive Forum, National Black MBA Association (NY/CT Chapter Founder/President and Miami Chapter Secretary), Consortium for Graduate Study in Management Alumni Representative, Pet Club of America and is a Certified Adult Literacy Tutor and Rotary Club Speaker. Global Ways is a certified minority vendor with the Florida Office of Supplier Diversity.
In the workshops and in the classroom, she provides a lively setting, injects high-energy, uses a variety of training methodologies and tools, and makes learning fun and memorable.
